JAMS Exposes OpenVMS to .NET Developers
Columbus, Ohio - June 23, 2003 - Today, MVP Systems announced the imminent availability of the JAMS .NET Client for its enterprise class job scheduler running on OpenVMS. The .NET Client is a new enhanced version of the JAMS Windows Client, released in 1998. In addition to existing management capabilities, the .NET Client gives users the ability to edit definitions, allowing them to add, change, and delete definitions within the windows environment.
"The challenge we faced in developing the JAMS .NET Client was finding a straightforward way to access RMS data. We decided to create a .NET Data Provider for OpenVMS allowing us to expose the backend of JAMS as .NET objects. The data provider establishes a common code base to access both OpenVMS/RMS and Microsoft SQL Server," explained Bob Shackelford, Product Manager for the .NET Client.
"Another benefit of exposing JAMS as .NET objects is that developers now have an easy way to integrate JAMS scheduling capabilities into any windows application. We see many uses for the data provider. Ultimately, it could be used with any .NET application to access OpenVMS, allowing developers to combine the strengths of OpenVMS with the.NET development environment", said Shackelford.
The JAMS .NET Client will be included with all future releases of the product at no additional charge.
Within the next 30 days MVP will be selecting beta partners for the JAMS .NET Client. Customers interested in becoming a beta test partner can signup on the MVP web site at www.mvpsi.com.
The Job Access and Management System (JAMS) provides enterprise class, cross platform, job-scheduling capabilities. It gives those in charge of operations as well as the general end-user, the ability to request, monitor and control the processing of batch jobs. JAMS can completely automate and integrate data center processing leading to a completely lights-out operation.
JAMS significantly reduces the complexities associated with running a professionally managed data center. Through its robust job scheduling features, JAMS integrates complex business processes across multiple applications and platforms and provides an easy way for different applications to work together. By scheduling specific tasks to be run in a specific order, JAMS allows IT organizations to implement business processes that depend on multiple tasks across different applications while managing dependencies between platforms so that business processes flow without interruption.
JAMS product licensing can begin with a free limited usage license that can be upgraded as needs change. All JAMS license levels enable core product features and will include the .NET Client upon beta completion. MVP Systems was founded in 1988 to develop, JAMS, a world-class job scheduling system, for the OpenVMS operating system. For more than 13 years MVP and its partners have successfully marketed JAMS throughout the United States, Canada, Australia and Europe.
